Tooth Extractions in Charlotte

Charlotte Emergency Dental offers tooth extraction services as part of its comprehensive list of affordable dental care. If you have a broken or fractured tooth, the dentists at Charlotte Emergency Dental may be able to help.

Our mission is to be your same-day dentist and eliminate your discomfort! As often as possible, we promptly perform same-day tooth extractions to treat our patients' severe pain or discomfort.

Our dentist can remove your tooth in a safe and quick procedure that will relieve your pain and get you back to normal quickly. If you are suffering from an infected or broken tooth, you must see a dentist as soon as possible.

Untended cavities or other dental problems can spread to other parts of your mouth and lead to more severe issues. Waiting too long can also cause irreparable damage, including losing another tooth.

What to Expect

The tooth extraction process varies depending on the extraction type and the tooth condition. If the tooth is still fully intact, the dentist will use local anesthesia to numb the area before removing the tooth.

Our dentist may also recommend antibacterial medication to help prevent infection. If the tooth has been broken or decayed, it will be removed with a drill or another piece of equipment that can remove the tooth while minimizing damage to the surrounding area. While tooth extraction is a relatively straightforward procedure, it is best to be prepared.

If you have never had a tooth extracted, you should expect some bleeding and discomfort afterward. You will probably experience some swelling and discomfort after the extraction, and you should avoid chewing on the side of the mouth that was treated for at least 24 hours after the extraction. You should also expect to have a visible hole or gap where the tooth once was.

Cavity-Caused Tooth Extraction

When a tooth needs to be extracted, it is usually due to decay or infection. Cavities are caused by bacteria in your mouth that feed on sugars from food and drink. These bacteria can cause tooth decay, eventually leading to teeth crumbling and falling out.

The dentist may recommend a tooth extraction if you have a tooth affected by decay. Dentists typically recommend an extraction if a cavity has severely damaged a tooth. In this case, the dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then replace it with an implant or a bridge to help support the remaining teeth.

Dentists may also use tooth extractions to treat patients with gum disease or other oral health issues.

Impacted Tooth Extraction

An impacted tooth does not have room to grow out properly and become a visible tooth. Impacted teeth are more likely to be damaged and infected. Impacted teeth are more common in children but can also occur in adults.

An impacted tooth will not have a visible crown, so it requires extraction to be removed. Impacted teeth are removed using general anesthesia. After the tooth is removed, a space maintainer will be used to keep the area where the tooth was located open until the other teeth have grown in fully.

Broken Tooth Extraction

Broken tooth extraction is when a dentist removes a tooth that has broken into pieces. A broken tooth can sometimes be saved if caught early on, but once it has broken into pieces, it becomes more challenging to repair as the tooth is more susceptible to infection and decay.

If you have a broken tooth, it is best to have it removed as soon as possible to prevent infection and avoid further damage.

Recovery Time After A Tooth Extraction

After tooth extraction, you may experience some swelling, bleeding, and mild discomfort. You may also have trouble chewing if the tooth was a molar or if there was an infection. You will likely be prescribed antibiotics to help prevent an infection from spreading.

You can also use pain-relief medications to ease any discomfort. It will take about two weeks for your mouth to heal fully after tooth extraction. Some swelling may last longer. During this time, you will want to take care of your mouth and avoid re-infection by brushing your teeth regularly and rinsing your mouth with salt water.

You may also want to wear a protective mouth guard if you risk teeth grinding.

Everyone was very nice from the moment I walked in. The doctor himself made me feel very comfortable and confident that nothing would go wrong. This place was excellent! And pain free! They saved me from having to go to an oral surgeon and he was able to get my tooth out within 10 minutes the SAME DAY I called!
